THE HANDS BEHIND SEAN SHEILA
Since 2014, Sean Sheila’s garment have been made entirely by a team of disabled tailors in Central Jawa, Indonesia.
Located at the foot of the mountains, Purbalingga is a small town far from Indonesia’s major fashion centres. It is also home to a large community of disabled craftspeople, many of whom face limited opportunities to pursue their skills professionally.
Sean Sheila began working with this community after discovering a group of highly skilled tailors whose patience, precision and dedication to craft deeply resonated with the brand.
Today, the brand works closely with SLB Negeri Purbalingga, providing graduates with an opportunity to continue developing their skills beyond school. New members undergo several years of training in sewing, tailoring and luxury finishing techniques before mastering the skills required to produce a Sean Sheila garment.
For Sean Sheila, their disability is not the story. Their skill is.
Every garment is shaped by their hands, their patience and years of practice — making each piece not simply produced, but deeply made.
